Marilyn In Art
Jason Salzenstein READ TIME: 1 MIN.
Who knew that one person could have inspired so many pieces of art?
Of course we're all familiar with Warhol's classics featuring Marilyn's face (which, unfortunately is not even featured in this book, although the myriad copies, homages, etc. that it inspired are), but did you know that there are literally hundreds of instances of Marilyn Monroe in works by highly acclaimed and/or recognized artists? It's unbelievable.
Of course many of them follow a common theme, style and look- namely sexy, glamorous, seductive, and a bit naughty. But then, what else would they be, given the subject matter? That one woman could inspire so many people, well, it's breathtaking.
Line drawings, giant acrylics, charcoals dripping with emotion, even modern digital images- they're all here, and all incredible. With examples from everyone who is anyone in the art world, this is without a doubt the most complete assemblage of Marilyn artwork ever compiled. What makes it even more interesting is the addition of quotes, from people like Lee Strasberg, Anne Bancroft, Richard Avedon, and Sophia Loren.
Truly every style is represented, and every aspect, nuance, personality and emotion of the star herself. In large format, full-colour pages, the works pop and the cover draws you in, inviting you to explore. Fans of Marilyn, artists and nearly every gay man will be thrilled at this book.
And with good reason.
