Fear The Walking Dead - The Complete Fourth Season

In last season's 15-episode arc of "Fear the Walking Dead," the blended family in the zombie-fied show left sunny San Diego, CA and ended up at the war-torn border of the U.S. and Mexico. It seems to be the series' modus operandi to change locales each season. So in the 15 episodes on Lionsgate's new 4-disc Blu-ray set "Fear the Walking Dead: The Complete Fourth Season," the location gets moved again.

Not only is there a change of scenery in the spin-off series, but some of the characters have also disappeared for good. Meanwhile, loner Morgan (Lennie James) comes over from the companion show "The Walking Dead," a bold and wise move that drastically improves the dynamics in this fourth season.

You'll notice a shift in tone immediately in the first episode titled "What's Your Name," a reference to the constant asking of Morgan's name when he comes into contact with the characters in "Fear the Walking Dead." Yeah, there are still hordes of zombies to fight and kill, but the soon to be long-in-the-tooth "Fear the Walking Dead" needed a major boost if it was to continue successfully.

The pacifist character Morgan meets up with the blended family in Texas after they've had to flee the baseball stadium that they had made their new home. Timelines shift back and forth in season four of "Fear the Walking Dead," and the skewered time shifts work in the show's favor. The episodes are also quite gritty and grainy looking, and any color schemes from prior season have been toned down significantly.

Naturally, the final episode sees a major character facing a life-altering decision and the fourth season of "Fear the Walking Dead" ends in cliffhanger mode.

All discs on the Blu-ray set include multiple audio commentaries for many of the episodes. Showrunners, executive producers, and a small array of actors do the voiceovers on these commentaries. These are the only extras in an underwhelming special features section on an otherwise enjoyable Blu-ray release.
