"Heartstopper" heartthrob Kit Connor is reportedly Alex Garland's top pick to star in the planned big-screen version of the epic fantasy game "Elden Ring." The casting would reunite Connor, 21, with the "Ex Machina" director after Connor starred in Garland's Iraq-set military adventure "Warfare" from last year, Deadline noted.

"While it is unknown where things stand in negotiations or if a formal offer has been offered, sources tell Deadline the director has talks" happening with Connor, the outlet relayed. "Sources stress several factors still need to be worked out including scheduling but both Garland and Connor want this to happen."

The project would also mark another reunion – that of Garland with A24, "with four of his five films bowing at the studio" – namely, the sci-fi thriller "Annihilation," the 2024 drama "Civil War," and this year's Connor-starring "Warfare."

Deadline went on to detail that "the game is based on a story written by [George R.R.] Martin, author of the fantasy novel series, 'A Song of Ice and Fire,' which served as the basis for HBO's 'Game of Thrones.'"

For his part, Connor has starred in three seasons of the Netflix global hit "Heartstopper," in which he plays a bisexual teen in a relationship with a sweet, bullied fellow male student. Under pressure from fans accusing him of "queerbaiting" and demanding to know his sexual orientation in real life, Connor memorably came out as bisexual in a 2022 post in which he sarcastically congratulated fans for "forcing an 18 year old to out himself."

Netflix recently announced that "Heartstopper" will wrap up with a movie, rather than with a fourth season.
