Gold Dust Orphan Joey Pelletier Throws His Wicked Boston Accent Around on JustFor.Fans

Nicholas Dussault READ TIME: 8 MIN.

Joey Pelletier has been a fixture on the Boston fringe theater scene for nearly two decades. Five years ago, the twice IRNE Award-nominated actor took some time off to get sober and make some changes in his life. He had supported himself and his art in a number of ways ranging from waiting tables to working as an escort. On his hiatus from acting he began creating adult content and has had some success.

For the third consecutive year, Joey will be back on the Boston stage performing in the Gold Dust Orphans' annual, wildly popular Christmas show. This year's production, "Rosemary's Baby Jesus" is, according to Pelletier, "the story of Mrs. Grinchley, the Grinch's widow who owns an apartment building called the House of the Seven Gay Boys. The show's heroine, Rosemary Shithouse and her husband Guy, are looking to rent an apartment from Mrs. Grinchley."

Recently EDGE had a chance to chat with Joey about his work as an actor and an adult content creator. He even suggested that JustFor.Fans might be a good side gig for other actors as it's not limited to adult content.

Joey Pelletier

EDGE: You've been an actor in Boston for a long time.

Joey Pelletier: I was an actor for many years in the Boston theater scene. When I got sober, I quit because I realized how resentful I was doing it and how much time and energy it takes to be an actor any place, especially Boston. I hadn't done any acting for a couple years when my good friend Kiki Samko, who is the director for Ryan Landry's Gold Dust Orphans, asked me if I wanted a part in an upcoming show. I love the Gold Dust Orphans. I love their work. But I just didn't want to get back into acting. Three years ago she reached out again and said, "I've got a great part for you. You'll be wearing a jock strap." I said, "Count me in." This year is my third production, their Christmas musical "Rosemary's Baby Jesus."

EDGE: Is it hard being an actor in Boston?

Joey Pelletier: There are fewer paying roles. I love Boston and I love the theater scene and all the people I've worked with over the years. I've tried my hand at producing and directing too and you end up putting in so much time for so little money. Letting go of the theater scene full-time enabled me to invest in my relationships, other facets of myself, family, traveling and getting sober.

EDGE: How did you end up creating adult content?

Joey Pelletier: When I was doing theater I would always take on a lot of the naked male identifying parts in Boston. And it was freeing. It was such a trip for my ego and I loved the shock value. I was also doing escorting on the side, so I was a part-time hooker trying to make ends meet. I got sober and I guess it allowed me to start thinking about all the things I was afraid of and to become a stronger person. I had been thinking about doing porn and was inspired by people in and around Boston, New York and Fort Lauderdale to do it. I started a Twitter account and told myself if I reached 10k in followers I would try my hand at porn. When I got there I did JustFor.Fans and that's how it began.

EDGE: Do you have a specific genre of content?

Joey Pelletier: I wouldn't say it's too specific, but I go as a trashy Irish-American dad from Boston. I do a lot of threesomes with my partner and I do a lot of gang bang scenes. That's the bread and butter, gang bangs. I work with the GangBangGuys out of Columbus, OH. I'll go there and we'll do three back-to-back gang bangs with different men. If they're traveling, I'll go wherever they happen to be located.

EDGE: You said you do scenes with your partner. Does the experience of having sex in front of the camera impact your own intimate moments and private sex life?

Joey Pelletier: That's such a good question. We have our own thing, we're able to communicate desires and fantasies to each other that we don't necessarily need to divulge to the rest of the world in our content. When I'm having sex for the camera it's big and ballsy, dramatic. When I'm with my partner it can be real intimate. We take our time, laugh, whisper, enjoy each other. We have an open relationship and we both get turned on by telling each other stories about encounters off-camera. And off-camera sex is more enjoyable because we can fully be ourselves. We don't have to put on an act.

EDGE: Does your family know about your online career?

Joey Pelletier: A couple of my brothers and their wives know. They're really supportive. My brother and his wife live in DC and my partner and I were there working a party recently. We had dinner with them and his wife asked what kind of a party it was. I said, "sex party." She said, "I thought you've always done porn," which opened the door to communication and honesty. They had lots of questions, and it turned out to be a really great, fun conversation.

EDGE: How do you distinguish yourself from other content creators?

Joey Pelletier: I think I put out my goofy nature and I throw on a Boston accent like nobody's business. I'll say wicked 100 times. I call people kid and say things like, "good job kid, we're doing real good" while I'm fucking him. People like that a lot. And I'm just having such a good time when I'm having any kind of sex, and I think that shows.

EDGE: Have you ever been trolled by anyone?

Joey Pelletier: Yeah, and it's not fun. But my decision has been when I'm being trolled to just not give them the time of day. I don't argue with them. I don't defend myself. What trolls and haters want is for you to engage with them. They live for that, it's their bread and butter. They want you to get to the point where you become so untethered by their vicious remarks that you say something you might regret. They're few and far apart, but when they do come, I just let them go.

EDGE: What's the worst experience you've had?

Joey Pelletier: Honestly, I don't really have anything. I've had mostly good experiences. I've met some amazing people, and they've become good friends. The worst times are when you go to collaborate with someone and they're a little drunk or using drugs. It's not going to be a good scene if one of us is sober and the other is sloppy and all over the place. It happened to me recently. I stuck it out for a little while then I had a friend call me with a fake excuse to get out of there.

EDGE: The fake call is still a thing?

Joey Pelletier: It still works.

EDGE: What's the difference between porn and JustFor.Fans?

Joey Pelletier: JustFor.Fans, is a site where anyone can put their own videos up. You don't have to be working with a studio. You can put your own content up, whatever content you want. It doesn't need to be adult sexual content. You can do inspirational videos, workouts, yoga, cooking videos. You put them up, you get subscribers and they tune in to all of your videos. For me personally, I put all of my content that's not with a studio up there. I have control over what I do and what people see on JustFor.Fans.

EDGE: Is it difficult to film your own stuff?

Joey Pelletier: When I first started, I didn't have anything but a phone and a lamp. I put my phone on the lamp, and I was in business. Now, you should see my bedroom. There's selfie sticks and lighting modules everywhere. I can still do my own, but I can also hire someone or get my partner to do it.

EDGE: Do you have any other sites you use?

Joey Pelletier: I do have OnlyFans and Raw Fuck Club, but I like JustFor.Fans because it gives you a lot of leeway when it comes to what you can put up there. They don't have nearly as many restrictions as some of the other sites. They allow you to truly be yourself with the content you're making, and I think that's something that all content creators really value.

EDGE: Has there been any conflicts in your theater work because of the adult content work?

Joey Pelletier: Right now I work with Ryan [Landry], and he is the most supportive person when it comes to us being who we are. He's not the kind of person who's going to say, "You can't do this, or you can't do that, in your personal life." He wants you to be your authentic self. He chooses people, especially actors, to work with him consistently who actually are their authentic selves.

EDGE: Would you recommend JustFor.Fans as a viable side gig for actors?

Joey Pelletier: I think any actor who is looking to make some extra money can do JustFor.Fans. Not necessarily porn, but they can do something that suits their needs. If you're an actor and a good cook, why not cooking videos? It doesn't have to be sexy cooking videos; it can be funny. If you have something you're passionate about, it's a great place to share it with others. You don't have to do a little off the shoulder or pump your tits out to do it. It can work for a variety of really cool things.
