Philly Fight Presents 'End AIDS: The HIV Prevention and Outreach Summit'

On Wednesday, June 7, Philadelphia FIGHT will present End AIDS: The HIV Prevention and Outreach Summit at the Pennsylvania Convention Center on 13th and Arch Streets in Philadelphia. The event features a full lineup of affiliated events, including a Community BBQ, Hip-Hop concert, Faith Summit, Prison Healthcare conference and Divas Live: The 2nd Annual Philadelphia Kiki Youth People's Choice Awards.

Philadelphia FIGHT's End AIDS: The HIV Prevention and Outreach Summit, is the largest and first summit of AIDS Education Month. The event aims to provide the latest information on research, evidence-based HIV prevention, outreach strategies, and best practices in targeting and connecting the most at-risk groups in Philadelphia to care.

Tracks include: Research and Treatment, The Cure, PrEP, Mental Healthcare and HIV, Homelessness and Housing, LGBTQ, Hepatitis C and HIV, HIV and Substance Use, HIV and Aging, and more.

Featured speakers include:

  • Mayor James Kenney, Mayor, City of Philadelphia
  • David E. Thomas, AEM Co-chair and Associate Vice President, Strategic Initiatives and Dean, Division of Access & Community Engagement, Community College of Philadelphia
  • Dr. Roberta Laguerre-Frederique, Outreach & Prevention Director Dorothy Mann Center for Pediatric & Adolescent HIV at St. Christopher's Hospital for Children
  • Jeanne White-Ginder, Legendary HIV/AIDS Activist, Mother of Ryan White

    The event also includes a Faith Leaders and Community Summit and Gospel Concert featuring Anthony Brown and Group therAPy. Saturday, June 17, 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m., 2301 Snyder Ave.

    The Faith Summit convenes faith leaders in Philadelphia for the purpose of confronting HIV/AIDS and equipping these community leaders with the tools to promote HIV Prevention, testing, and linkage to care in their daily work.

    This year's Faith Summit will also include our annual AEM Gospel Concert, and inspirational gathering for gospel music & community.

    Speakers include The Rev. Dr. James Alexander Forbes, Jr., National Minister of the Drum Major Institute, Senior Minister Emeritus of The Riverside Church, The Harry Emerson Fosdick Distinguished Professor at Union Theological Seminary, and President of the Healing of the Nations Ministries (all of these institutions of New York City). Performing at the event will be Anthony Brown and Group therAPy.

    There will also be a Community Cookout, on Saturday, June 24, 12-3 p.m., Fairmount Park, Area #2, 33rd Street and Cecil B. Moore Avenue.

    And, in their continuing effort to get young people tested and aware of HIV, they'll hold their Fifth Anniversary Hip Hop for Philly Concert for National HIV Testing Day, Saturday, June 25.

    It's a free hip-hop concert available to youth ages 13-24 who receive a free, confidential HIV test at a number of locations throughout Philadelphia.

    And learn about HIV in prisons at the Beyond the Walls: Prison Healthcare and Reentry Summit, Wednesday, June 28, 8 a.m.-5 p.m., Pennsylvania Convention Center, 13th and Arch Streets.

    The Beyond the Walls: Prison Healthcare and Reentry Summit brings together the communities that are affected by the parallel crises of HIV and mass imprisonment. With a focus on community-led responses to the crisis in the criminal justice system, workshops reflect the needs of prisoners and former prisoners and will highlight the work being done to improve conditions inside the prison walls and in the communities to which prisoners are returning.

    Workshops offered include:

  • Beyond the Walls Workshops by Track
  • Beyond the Walls Workshops Approved for CHES and RN/CRNP Credits
  • Beyond the Walls Workshops Approved for LSW/LCSW Credit

    The lineup closes with Divas Live: The 2nd Annual Philadelphia Kiki Youth People's Choice Awards, Thursday, June 29, 6-9 p.m., Location TBD.

    Educational presentations in various communities throughout the city, special events for target populations, and major outreach to encourage all Philadelphians to get tested for HIV also take place during AIDS Education Month. Over 10,000 individuals are directly reached by Philadelphia FIGHT's efforts every June.

    Philadelphia FIGHT is a comprehensive health services organization providing primary care, consumer education, research, and advocacy for people living with HIV/AIDS and those at high risk. FIGHT's goal is to end the AIDS epidemic within the lifetime of those currently living with HIV.
