LA Women's Theatre Fest Presents Excerpts From Festival Winners

For one very special night, the Los Angeles Women's Theatre Festival (LAWTF) comes to Culver City for a unique performance on Sunday, July 10 at the Ivy Substation in Culver City.

The theme for the evening will be Looking Back, Stepping Forward. Five of LAWTF's encore performers will be featured. Works are excerpted and include:

Karen Bankhead in "Etta Mae Mumphries: And the Rest Is History." Etta Mae Johnson, better known as "The Black Forrest Gump" is full of wisdom, humor, and anecdotes of her influence on celebrities. She knows everybody who is somebody.

Dina Morrone in "The Italian in Me." A young woman leaves her Italian grandmother behind on their rural Canadian farm and moves to the Eternal City, Rome, in search of La Dolce Vita and a career in Italian cinema.

Cheray O'Neal in "Journey This." This piece takes the audience down a humorous and soul-searching odyssey and raises the question, "Is happiness a choice or a by-product?"

Clarinda Ross in "From My Grandmother's Grandmother's Grandmother Unto Me." This storytelling piece chronicles the joys and sorrows of five generations of Appalachian women.

The Lindz in "WASP." This artist explores relationship-oriented, socially conscious, goofy, insightful, sardonic and riotous spoken word poetry.

The Los Angeles Women's Theatre Festival, a non-profit arts organization, was founded by Executive Producer Adilah Barnes and Miriam Reed. Looking Back, Stepping Forward marks the LAWTF's sixth consecutive annual program for residents of Culver City. This performance is made possible in part by the Culver City Performing Arts Grant Program with support from Sony Pictures Entertainment.

Looking Back, Stepping Forward will be held on Sunday, July 10 at 7 p.m. at the Ivy Substation, 9070 Venice Blvd., Culver City, CA 90232. Tickets are $20 in advance, $25 at the door.
