6 Ways to Throw Shade

Whether it's a day on the beach or a walk of shame, sunglasses are the must-have accessory for your summer wardrobe. EDGE reveals six brands, featuring new releases and special collaborations that will keep you in style no matter where you're headed.

Komono x Tomorrowland
Komono, the Belgian accessories brand known for its unique combination of fashion details and quality production, has partnered with electronic music festival Tomorrowland.

Inspired by global outreach (this year's festival will connect live with seven other countries, including Germany, Israel, Mexico, and South Africa), the designs juxtapose color and finishing treatments.

The limited collection comprises six unique Komono frames that set themselves apart by matching translucent gradient prints with gradient lenses. Each style is inscribed with words of wisdom that invite people to keep a magical perspective on life.
$89.95 per frame.

Traveler by TOMS
Most socially conscious fashion trendsetters are familiar with founder Blake Mycoskie's TOMS, a company that for every pair of shoes purchased provides a matching pair to a child in need. The company launched an eyewear division in 2011 under the same model, providing prescription glasses, medical treatment or sight-saving surgery for every pair of purchased sunglasses.

New summer colors for the Traveler by TOMS include the Bowery - a matte crystal frame with dipped earpieces in blue and similarly tinted lenses. With smooth edges and a structured matte frame, the sunglasses are designed for those with a sharp and timeless sense of style.

Each pair is constructed in TOMS' unique rubberized material designed to provide long-lasting durability, comfort and fit, and features 100 percent UVA/UVB protection and lightweight polycarbonate lenses for high-impact resistance. The case itself makes a statement, made with travel-inspired fabric.

Lacoste L816S
Keep it bright and light this summer with Lacoste's latest eyewear collection, the floatable L816S. This new style sports rectangular lenses in an innovative, wearable design that stands out from the crowd.

The matte finish heightens the sports look on these classic wayfarers, and the frame is fabricated using a new injection molding technique that allows the sunglasses to float. The sunglasses can also be fitted with prescription lenses. Available in vibrant yellow, nautical blue, Lacoste green or classic black.

$156 per frame.

Classic Specs
Premiering at the Brooklyn Flea in 2010, Classic Specs was founded in Williamsburg to bring beautiful and well-crafted eyewear to all. Frames are vintage-inspired, handmade with the high-quality Italian acetate, durable stainless steel reinforced hinges and custom lenses ground in Los Angeles.

The brand recently joined forces with three influential names in the art community to design a new collection of conversation-starting frames. Among them, Jean Jullien, a French graphic designer best known for his character-based illustrations; Margherita Urbani, a Pop Art-leaning Italian artist and lead graphic designer at Anthropology; and Tim Lahan, a Philadelphia-based illustrator who is influenced by visual cues in everyday life. Lahan created the clear acetate and metal "Three-Way" frames, which are a favorite of Alan Cumming.

Starting at $195.

RFLKT
Exclusive to EyeBuyDirect.com (EBD), RFLKT is a new premium brand available from the eyewear e-tailer. Each frame and its name is inspired by modern architecture and premium materials and components designed in Italy and Germany, and every frame is cut with mechanical precision.

Shadow sunglasses in jet black are made from glossy black acetate and feature round-shaped lenses, monochromatic styling, double stud accents, Italian hinges and an angular browline. And for each pair sold, EBD donates $2 to local charity organizations. Last year, more than 35,000 prescription frames were donated to Feed the Children.

$70 per frame.

Salvatore Ferragamo
Combining timeless elegance with contemporary style, the Salvatore Ferragamo spring/summer 2016 eyewear collection features a range of stylish frames. Women's styles include two acetate frames: one featuring a butterfly-shaped front with gold metal temples finished with acetate tips and two layers of acetate in different colors, the other a retro rounded frame front with a contemporary color combination between the plastic and the lenses.

For the men, a boxy model features the collection's geometric pattern and plays with contrasting prints on the temples, and the second model has vintage-inspired acetate, oval frame with a double bridge and lightweight metal temples.

Starting at $250.
