HBO's 'Looking' Movie Gets Premiere Date

READ TIME: 1 MIN.

After unceremoniously canceling the gay dramedy "Looking" last year, HBO offered some good news to fans by revealing the series would have some closure with a TV movie. Now that wait is almost over as the network revealed Tuesday the premiere date for "Looking: The Movie."

The two-hour wrap-up film will air Saturday, July 23, according to TVLine. Patrick (Jonathan Groff) "returns to San Francisco for the first time in almost a year to celebrate a momentous event with his old friends. In the process, he must face the unresolved relationships he left behind and make difficult choices about what's important to him."

The series also stars Frankie J. Alvarez as Augustin, Murray Barlett as Dom, Lauren Woodman as Doris, Russell Tovey as Kevin and Raul Castillo as Richard. Executive producers Andrew Haigh and Michael Lannan wrote the script and Haigh directed the film.

When HBO nixed "Looking" last year, the network's president Michael Lombardo delighted fans when he revealed the show's loose ends would be tied up with a movie.

"There were some fans that really wanted to find [closure] with the storylines, [and the writers] wanted to wrap up storytelling for the characters," he said at the time. "I thought the show, creatively, was really doing something that I hadn't seen on any other show, particularly dealing with gay lives. As a gay man, in particular, I was very proud that there was a show that felt like it was dealing very honestly and openly with gay men and their lives, without putting them into a comedic mode."
