FashionFIX: Must-Have Menswear Pieces for Fall 2015
Steve Soto READ TIME: 4 MIN.
Hi, boys! You know you can count on your FashionFIX columnist (me!) for your absolute must-haves when you're out shopping for a little something to add to your wardrobe this fall, and even into this winter.
Chinos are really everywhere in the current collections in an extensive variety of colors and prints. They are great because you can go from day to night in them very easily; after work, just change your shirt and your shoes, and you're ready for happy hour cocktails or even dinner later.
Go for Flat Front Chinos and try on a modern fitted look. The fit should be close to the body without feeling like you're being hugged anywhere (except the butt... because, well, we like that!) The Flat Front makes you seem thinner because there's less bulk in the midsection, and when the pant leg is closer to the body, it helps you to appear taller!
As it gets a little cooler and you're looking to add some new pieces to your everyday wardrobe, check out John Varvatos' autumn/winter sweaters and cardigans collection. These pieces are mostly lighter-weight textiles that would be great for our climate during the next few months. My favorite styles from this collection are the Henleys and the V-necks, particularly the Chunky V-Neck and the Ribbed Henley. Both very sexy pieces that are also very comfortable to wear!
These styles can also be found at H&M for a more budget-friendly alternative. They do a great job over there at following current trends and maintaining a low price point.
If you're traveling north to visit family for the holidays and want a great new jacket or coat for the colder weather, the biggest trend in outerwear for men this season is the Shearling. For a design house which is doing the Shearling the way it should be done, check out Burberry autumn/winter 2016 Men's Shearling & Leather Collection. They have everything from -coats to Bombers and everything in between.
The first of my three favorites from Burberry is, of course, the Midnight Blue Shearling Aviator Jacket. This isn't just a jacket... this is a sexy piece of Italian tailoring! The black leather panels on the sleeves and leather line work on both the body and sleeves are beautiful! Also, the leather-bound seams are an exquisite design detail. For me, it has a little bit of this Japanese anime feel to it that I am obsessed with, and I love giving a "look" when I've got layers on... it's all about the reveal!
Next is the Virgin Wool and Cashmere Topcoat. This coat is perfect if you are traveling for business and need to wear suits, or if you need to give a more polished look at meetings while you're out of town. The traditional tailoring details, like the peaked lapels and pick-stitch design details elevate the look to a truly luxe level. This is also a very sexy coat to wear on a dinner date, with a cashmere sweater underneath and maybe some dark denim or a black pair of chinos!
Last, but definitely not least, from this collection, we have for the most daring of you... the Nappa Leather Trench Coat. This thing is gorgeous; it is an Italian double-breasted trench coat crafted in Nappa lambskin. Its structured fit comes from its belted waist and set-in sleeve, and the added epaulettes, gun flap and storm shield features really give this piece an incredibly polished look. It's a little pricey, but this is the kind of gift you give yourself once in a while and take out to feel self-love when you wear it! Splurge on yourselves every now and then, boys, you'll thank yourselves for it.
Okay, that's it for this special column, fashionistas! Enjoy the cool weather to come and check back here for your regularly-scheduled FashionFIX in the weeks to come!
