Pizza At A Gay Wedding? Not In This Indiana Town

EDGE READ TIME: 2 MIN.

EDITOR'S NOTE: We don't know which is worse, the fact that this establishment would use Indiana's new license to discriminate law to deny catering services for gay marriages or the fact that they think any self-respecting homosexual would serve pizza at their wedding.

It didn't take long for one Indiana business to openly state that they will avail themselves of the state's newly adopted Religious Freedom Restoration Act to deny service to gays and lesbians.

Local Indiana ABC 57ABC affiliate reported that Memories Pizza of Walkerton Indiana located 20 miles outside of South Bend, has publicly stated in an on-air interview that their establishment would not cater gay or non-Christian functions.

"If a gay couple came in and wanted us to provide pizzas for their wedding, we would have to say no." Said Crystal O'Connor of Memories Pizza. "We're not discriminating against anyone, that's just our belief and anyone has the right to believe in anything."

O'Connor, who supported Indiana Governor Mike Pence's decision to sign the controversial bill into law, doesn't believe that it will lead to discrimination despite saying that she'll use it for just that purpose.

"I do not think it's targeting gays. I don't think it's discrimination. It's supposed to help people that have a religious belief."

O'Connor is proof that the apple didn't fall far from the stupid tree. Her father, Kevin believes that the issue of sexuality is based in choice.

"That lifestyle is something they choose. I choose to be heterosexual. They choose to be homosexual. Why should I be beat over the head to go along with something they choose?"

Raw Story points out that the backlash on Yelp was immediate with one user stating the obvious. "in all my queer life, I've never known a gay to cater their wedding with pizza."

Memories Pizza's Facebook page, which is open for comments is experiencing a similar backlash.

"When are they going out of business?" one user wrote. To which another user replied "Soon... very, very soon... they are just too stupid to know it yet. LOL"
