'Bilicious' :: Multimedia Show Demystify Bisexual Experience

EDGE READ TIME: 2 MIN.

On Friday, November 8 and Saturday, November 9, 2013 at 7:30pm, the fourth annual "Bilicious" variety show returns to the stage at Boston's South End neighborhood hotspot Club Caf. Open to theatergoers of all persuasions, this thought-provoking evening of bisexual-themed multimedia performance playfully mixes serious issues with entertainment through comedy, poetry, dance, and film. A Q&A panel discussion will immediately follow the performance, allowing the audience to engage cast members and the producer about their thoughts on bisexual issues.

Producer and filmmaker Susannah Layton created the "Bilicious" show in 2007, while browsing the program for the annual National Queer Arts Festival in San Francisco. Ms. Layton was shocked to discover there were no bisexual events being produced that year and grabbed an opportunity to respond to a call for entries for the 2008 event. Ms. Layton's passion for the visual and performing arts fueled her desire to create a multimedia theater production, which would showcase bisexual artists and provide an opportunity for the audience to engage in a conversation about bisexuality. The Queer Cultural Center awarded her a Creating Queer Community grant to produce the first "Bilicious" show, which became the only featured bisexual event in the National Queer Arts Festival that year.

From 2008-2010 "Bilicious" was featured as the only bisexual event in the festival and is now an annual event in Boston, where Ms. Layton currently resides. Her personal film interviews with the "Bilicious" cast are featured each year as part of the show, introducing each cast member on stage before their performance. Said Ms. Layton, "As a sexual minority group, bisexuals need cultural events that represent our community to feel visible, accepted, and understood. The "Bilicious" show helps to demystify stereotypes about bisexuality while presenting positive images of bisexuals, through an entertaining and educational multimedia variety show format."

The fourth annual "Bilicious" Boston show will feature bisexual-themed performances from Tiggy Upland, Laurie Wolfe, UnAmerika's Sweetheart Karin Webb, Michael Monroe, and Bobby Crawford. Audience members will have the opportunity to engage the cast members and producer in a conversation about bisexuality immediately following the performance, during a Q&A discussion.
