The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1 (Extended Edition)

Director Bill Condon's take on the first half of the finale of the "Twilight Saga" gets the "Extended Edition" treatment in "The Twilight Saga - Breaking Dawn Part 1: Extended Edition." With eight minutes of new footage, the Extended Edition is a must for "Twi-hards," but will be a head-scratcher for the casual viewer. Moments not seen in the theatrical version include a scene where Bella (Kristen Stewart) and Edward (Robert Pattison) eat scrambled eggs (apparently a favorite scene for readers of the book), an alternate opening where the Volturi are shown Bella and Edward's wedding invitation, Jacob (Taylor Lautner) being harassed by Rosalie (Nikki Reed), and Edward breaking Jacob's arm before the vamp/werewolf battle in the backyard. There are a few slightly longer scenes, but they are barely noticeable.

While these deleted portions have a modicum of interest for "Twilight" fans, if someone hadn't pointed out what was new, I would have never even noticed the difference between releases. The fact that there are zero special features on the disc makes it a purchase only for diehard fans. There's a commentary track by director Condon in which he explains the reasons for the deletions as well as rehashes information from the first release. Otherwise, stick with the disc you already have and watch the new scenes on YouTube.
